Dr. Rodrigo Montoya López

Tenured Career Professor

Career

Metallurgical Chemical Engineer from the Faculty of Chemistry at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Ph.D. in Engineering from the same faculty with the thesis "Mathematical simulation of a cathodic protection system by using FEM."

After completing his Ph.D., he carried out a two-year postdoctoral stay at the National Center for Metallurgical Research (CENIM-CSIC) in Madrid, Spain. Subsequently, he obtained a two-year public offer contract to develop a technological project at Carlos III University of Madrid. To conclude his stay in Spain, he secured a new public competition contract at the National Center for Metallurgical Research (CENIM), where he combined mathematical simulation of electrochemical processes with localized electrochemical techniques.

Following his experience in Spain, he obtained a postdoctoral position in the prestigious SURF research group at the Free University of Brussels (Vrije Universiteit Brussel/VUB), where he was responsible for the mathematical simulation part of multiple research projects. These included two Belgian projects (corrosion in concrete and lithium-ion batteries) and one European project (concrete). In the latter, he was one of the two Belgian commissioners and the representative of the Free University of Brussels (VUB).

Currently, he is a Full-Time Professor "A" T.C. in the Department of Metallurgy at the Faculty of Chemistry of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, affiliated with the University Campus for Unit of Applied Research and Technology of UNAM (UNITA-UNAM) in Apodaca, N.L.
